Mileage: 106,417 miles
Requires:
40 minutes
3.75 liters of oil (if not replacing the filter, then only 3.5 liters)
New oil filter (Motobins kit #01992)
New crush washer (Motobins kit #01992)
New rubber gasket for filler cap (Motobins kit #01992)
Oil filter wrench (Motobins #99200)
Hex socket wrench (to remove and install drain plug)
Torque wrench to correctly re-tighten drain plug (optional)
Oil drain pan
Rubber/latex gloves
Rags/paper towels
Method:
Drive around to get engine up to normal operating temp (helps oil flow out)
Put bike up on center stand
Gather parts and tools together
Put on protective gloves
Put oil pan under engine area
Remove filler plug (helps oil flow out)
Remove drain plug (be careful and quick so not get hot oil on hands and tools). Discard oil crush washer (will probably fall into oil pan anyway)
Allow oil to fully drain (about 10 mins – tilt bike forward after a few mins to assist)
Remove old oil filter using filter wrench
Clean areas around drain plug, filter cavity and any other oil deposits around engine area (might as well while you’re down there).
Re-install drain plug with new crush washer. Tighten to 32Nm / 23ft-lb.
Pour small amount of oil into new filter, lubricating rubber seal with oil (helps seat in better).
Install new oil filter. First by hand then using filter wrench. Tighten to 12Nm (do not over-tighten).
Pour new oil into engine (use funnel if necessary).
Replace rubber gasket on filler cap and re-insert cap.
Remove oil pan, clean up and drops, spills, etc, and discard old oil responsibly.
Ride on!
